si pudessa at ang kanyang mga daliri

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is not a sex post. Hello, like I post kabastusan? ... (anymore). Kung gusto ko lang tumaas ang traffic, pwede ko namang patulan yung mga naggo-Google search ng "masahe na may extra service" o kaya "paraan para pumuti ang titi" o di kaya eh "libog si lola" but it's against my morals. Wow.

 ANYWAY MOVING FORWARD...

Kapag nakakareceive ka ng text coming from a stranger na nagsasabing nanalo ka ng 1 Million Pesos, o kaya nanghihingi ng load, o kung ano pang panggagantso, ano ang ginagawa mo? Malamang ignore lang. O kaya murahin. Ibahin nyo si Caloy.

Do you remember Caloy, yung magaling mag-squirt?

And that's how you troll them. What about you? How do you handle unknown texters?

PS Ang dugyot ni Pudessa.

web design tips

Pero after a few lectures sa pretty and bubbly instructor na si Miss Stephanie Beliaco, I was convinced that not only is this subject fun and interesting, it's also important if you're serious about blogging or maintaining a website.

Around that time nahihilig na ako sa blogging at naging interest ko talaga ang pag-layout ng website/blog. And after the course, yug mga natutunan ko I applied on my blog. And yun ang gusto kong i-share ngayon. Hindi naman ito all-encompassing lecture, tamang suggestions lang, at hindi na rin bago ang ibang tips so if you can or cannot relate and have a problem about it, SUE ME LOL.

The ONE MAJOR THING na dapat isaisip habang nagdedesign ng blog is, PUT YOURSELF IN THE POSITION OF THE READER. It helps, and I'll discuss why.

1. Fonts.

The most important thing about choosing font types, size and color is the readability. So bago magset ng font, put yourself in the position of the reader. Kung ikaw ang reader, gugustuhin mo bang magbasa ng blog na super liit ang font, or masyadong contrasting sa background color, or too decorative at hindi mo na maintindihan ang text?

Or gusto mo rin bang magbasa ng posts na sobrang laki ang font (so large that you need to scroll down after every few lines)? Or fonts na dikit-dikit?

How did you react to it?

The more eye-strain you give your readers, the less time they want to spend on your blog.

To be honest, may mga blog akong napupuntahan na masakit sa ulo basahin. Maganda ang content and I enjoy it, pero masakit sa ulo. Dahil sa font. At times dahil concerned ako sa writer because I like the blog, I drop some hints sa comments giving unsolicited advice about the font color size etc.

The key is, as common sense dictates, to pick a font na madaling mabasa, hindi masakit sa mata at hindi agaw-atensyon. The basic is black fonts on white background which is OK. Kapag binaligtad, like white fonts on a black background, it's still OK, pero it causes strain sa eyes kapag tumagal. Remember that as bloggers, we type from the Compose section of the blog. Eventually you'll lose that reader.

Actually according to our Web Design lectures, may mga fonts na recommended for online reading. Na hindi ko na maalala LOL.

More on fonts/text: Advisable na hati-hatiin ang isang mahabang paragraph into shorter ones. The rule is to separate them according to topic. Not only does it improve how the post looks like, it also makes the long post easier to read and understand.

2. Background

This can cause headaches. This reason causes me to spend as little time as possible sa isang blog na glaring ang background color. Sometimes I copy the text ang paste it on notepad para dun basahin. Most of the time I don't even bother.

You end up highlighting yung text para lang mabasa mo. That's if you are a patient reader. Others will just hit the X button and forget about you.

The logical thing to do is to place any background image sa spot na hindi magiging intrusive sa text. It might look good as a desktop background but not as a background when you're reading some text.

If you're using some repeating pattern as background, make sure hindi halata yung "pinagdugtungan" ng mga pattern, otherwise it just screams amateur. If you're using a non-scrolling background, make sure hindi kita ang edges especially on wider monitors. Otherwise magkakaroon ng abrupt na putol ang background and it doesn't look good at all.

3. Header

Dahil ito ang sumasalubong sa readers, this should give them a "feel" or a preview of what the blog is all about. But that doesn't mean dapat itong maging overdecorated, super laki at cluttered.

Just a tip: I have come across blogs na gumagamit lang ng text as headers. It's cool and clean tignan and it has become a standard, lalo na if you expect your readers to use mobile phones for browsing. Kung image ang blog header mo, it's gonna take a while to load the image (I'm guilty). I disabled mine because I'm evil).

Kung gusto mo rin ng image as header, just be sure to use crisp and hi-res image. Lubos-lubusin mo na. If you think your selling point is ang mukha mo and you want to use your picture as a header, by all means go. But you better use a picture na malinaw. If you're choosing between a pic taken using a DSLR and a pic taken from a 2MP phone, yung DSLR na lang ang gamitin mo. Think of your header as an advertisement, na isang tingin pa lang ng reader eh maeengganyo na sya. Mukha mo yan eh!

More on image resolution: if you're using a photo collage, make sure rin na pare-pareho sila ng quality. Kung may isang picture na HD tapos yung katabi nya eh pixelated o blurred, that difference is not unnoticeable.

If your header image is pixelated, stretched or distorted out of proportion, you can say na sinadya mo talagang ganun yun because you're unique. But not everyone is gonna know that. Iisipin lang nila, wala kang time mag-ayos.

Better put some useful information. Ako nilagay ko eh "Mwahchupa." Ang useful.

4. Navigation

It should not be difficult to move around your blog. Madali bang makalipat sa Next page and Previous pages? Visible ba ang mga important links like Comments? There are some blogs na gustong-gusto kong mag-iwan ng comment pero hindi ko talaga mahanap yung link. If you, like me, give importance to reader feedback, don't give the readers a hard time to leave comments.

Here's one thing I noticed. Some bloggers like to set a different font color for visited links. Which should not be a problem unless the new color is same as the background color. So this means kapag naclick mo na ang isang link, it "disappears" because it blends with the background. This can be a problem.

Usually may mga sidebars tayo where we put all links to posts, other areas of the blog and links to other blogs. Minsan naman nasa header ang menu. This is the standard and sidebars were designed naman talaga as placeholders for stuff.

Minsan left and right ang sidebars which is still OK. Madalas nasa sidebar natin ang link to all our blogger friends. What you have to consider is this: Mas mahaba ba ang sidebar mo keysa sa content ng blog mo? Sometime that happens, lalo kung maiiksi ang post. This causes your blog to look uneven, although mahirap talagang maiwasan.

Some bloggers put one post per page. For readers with a slow internet connection like public wifi, this is a no-no. Simply because if they want to keep reading more posts, it means more mouse clicks and page loads. If you want more mouse clicks to increase pageloads para sa ads, you have to reconsider the reason why you blog: do you want readers to read what you have to say, or do you just want to make money?

Some bloggers naman put like 100 posts in one page. This takes time to load and causes difficulty sa pagscroll. Baka hindi magtiyaga ang magbabasa. So just pick a good number of posts to lead per page. Hindi ko alam kung ano ang standard, but you have to base it on the length of your individual posts. Kung tig-one-liner lang, show more posts on one page. Syempre kung nobela, show less.

5. Ads

Syempre marami sa atin ang gustong kumita through blogging. Why not, kung marami tayong nababalitaang bloggers who earn big through ads. Let's face it: ads are unattractive. Some bloggers place ads everywhere: before and after a post, right under the title, minsan sa gitna mismo ng post. As a reader, this is confusing for me. Ako lang ba ang nacoconfuse?

The idea is to put ads sa pinaka-prime spots to maximize clickability. Logically, the more ads, the more chances of earning. But that's one thing you have to consider if you care about how your readers see your blog. Again, you have to think about your reasons for blogging: hobby, or money?

I placed an animated ad diyan sa lower right corner. Minsan lumalabas, minsan hindi. Bahala na sya.

6. Extras

Do you like embedding loud music that automatically plays once your blog is opened? You have to consider these things: Are all readers comfortable with the music? Do you think people go to your blog to listen to your playlist, or read your post? Can everyone read and listen to music simultaneously? Ako hindi ko kaya I admit.

Kung ang sidebar ay puno ng images, gifs music, videos, just remember that everytime your blog is opened, all these items are being loaded. Sometimes sa dami ng items, it causes the browser to crash, or not load propoerly, or load slowly. The less items to load, the faster to navigate through the blog. I'm not saying alisin mo lahat. I'm saying, consider your readers.

Do you put chatboxes? I used to have one then I removed it. It has evolved into a means for other bloggers to simply drop links without even reading the post. I also removed polls, image links to other blogs, popular posts, etc. Sometimes, or most of the time, when it comes to designing: Less is more.

And one more thing to note: not all readers use the same browser, and minsan iba ang itsura ng blog mo from one browser to another. If you're hardcore you'll want to test how your blog looks in each one. If not, then who cares right? LOL.

Finally, some disclaimers. I don't claim to be a guru nor claim to have a perfect blog. I don't even follow yung ibang tips na nabanggit ko. And if I mentioned something which made you think I was talking about your blog, it's not intentional. In the end you don't really blog to satisfy anyone but yourself, so you only have yourself to answer to. You don't have to explain your choices to anyone so kung gusto mo talaga ng white font against yellow background, so be it LOL.

To end this very long post, just remember na ang first impression ng reader pagpunta sa blog mo eh IKAW ANG BLOG MO. That is the reason why sometimes I meet people for the first time and they tell me, Ibang-iba ka sa personal. Kasi it's so easy to mistake your identity as a blogger (not only how you write but also how your blog looks like) as your real identity. Syempre yun ang nakikita nila online eh. So if your blog represents you, what kind of impression do you want to give?

Mwahchupa.

pbo - bahay ni maria

Unahan ko na kayo, this is not an April Fools Day prank.

From our meet-up point nagpunta kami sa Laguna nang medyo maaga pa, just in time sana for lunch ng mga Lola.

I was like "WHAT! Hindi sila nagpakain???" So all this time, nagkakantahan at nagsasayawan lang talaga ang birthday girl at ang mga bisita nyang bagets.

Turns out wala silang dalang foods. Pagkaabot sa kanya ng siopao, kinagat nya agad, papel and all.

Hala. Natakot ako. Pero sinubukan ko pa rin.

There's this one grannie chilling on a wheelchair, si Lola Olen. Siya ang maswerteng Lolang napili kong tulungang kumain that day.

Sabi nya 87 years old na daw sya. I was like Whut, gulay is good for you diba???

Na-work out talaga yung panga ni Lola that day.

Talagang inaanalyze natin ito eh no?

Let's not dwell on this part of the day and move on to the next topic shall we?

She looks happy and full naman.

So after ng kainan, the officers cleaned up and made the place livelier bago kami magkaroon ng maikling program with some banderitas and ballons going on.

Nagkaroon ng pagpapakilala, inspirational talk, musical number at getting-to-know between the bloggers and the Lolas.

Nalito sila Lola.

"Bladder?"
"Blotter?"
"Brother?"

While this was going on palakad-lakad lang ako sa paligid-ligid taking pics being the professional photographer that I am (not).

OK let's move on to the next topics!!!

So this was when Sister Evelyn was giving her inspirational talk. It made me sad. I'm not sure if these Lolas chose to be here. To sum it all up I overheard a conversation between a blogger and one of the Lolas.

"OK lang po ba kayo? Ano po nararamdaman nyo? May masakit ba?"
"Pagod na ako. Pagod na pagod na."

I knew at that moment she was not talking about how tiring that day was.

Or pwede ring napagod lang talaga sya dun sa nag-debut. The other Lolas are OK naman, masayahin at malalakas pa tumawa. I hope it made them happy.

Check! At tungkulin ko rin na magpagupit as soon as possible.

Nga pala, to my female readers, sabi ni Sister Evelyn, baka gusto nyong mag-madre? Malay nyo yun ang calling nyo diba?

I'm not sure if you already know this pero pwede pa daw magmadre kahit hindi na virgin. Yes, I asked, on your behalf. I'm sure yun ang magiging concern nyo. LOLjk.

Salamat sa mga nakasama ko sa event. It was a great way to end Q1. Meaningful and memorable. Salamat sa mga Lola for reminding me how important it is to grow old surrounded by people who love you.

Wanna join us?

Lastly,  a shout-out sa mga nakasama ko: Senyor Iskwater, Michelle and daughter Kyle, Sunny Toast, Tiny, Marge, Madz, Bino, Josh, June, Hustin, Karlo, Kelly, Toshi, Kat, Erin, Rix, Mecoy, Jei Son, Empi, Joanne, Zai, Arline and Kuya Mar.
